Kasibante presidential election petition kicks off at Supreme Court
The Supreme Court today begins hearing a presidential election petition filed by former presidential candidate Robert Kasibante, challenging the January 15 presidential election that was won by President Yoweri Museveni.
Kasibante alleges widespread electoral irregularities, including flaws in the voters’ register and failures of Biometric Voter Verification (BVV) kits at multiple polling stations. He claims the kits were deployed without proper legal backing and were never independently audited.
The petitioner also disputes the transmission, tallying, and declaration of results, citing discrepancies in Declaration of Results forms, delays, and lack of transparency.
Kasibante is asking the Court to nullify President Yoweri Museveni’s victory, cancel results from ungazetted polling stations, order audits of election returns and electronic systems, and direct the holding of fresh elections.
