Mystery blaze levels home of Bamunanika Parliamentary candidate

Aspirant blames political sabotage as investigators probe mysterious late-night blaze

A parliamentary candidate in Bamunanika is pointing to foul play after a mysterious fire gutted a multi-million-shilling house that her father was constructing for her, just months before the 2026 polls.

The late-night inferno left the nearly completed mansion in ruins, with no furniture, appliances, roofing, or interior fittings surviving the flames. The candidate whose name authorities withheld pending investigations says the timing and circumstances of the incident raise serious suspicions of politically motivated sabotage.

According to family members, the blaze began shortly after 11pm, with residents rushing to the property in an attempt to contain the fire before firefighters arrived. By the time the fire brigade managed to put out the flames, the structure had been almost entirely destroyed.

The candidate says she had received warnings and subtle threats from “people uncomfortable” with her growing support in the Bamunanika parliamentary race.

“This was not an accident. Someone wanted to send a message,” she told reporters, calling for a full investigation.

Local leaders described the incident as “shocking and unprecedented” in the area’s electoral history, urging security agencies to treat the case as priority given the rising tensions in the constituency.

Police have cordoned off the site and launched an investigation to determine whether the fire was caused by arson, faulty wiring, or another source. Preliminary findings are expected in the coming days.

The destruction of the mansion has sparked wider debate in Bamunanika over escalating political hostility as the election season intensifies, with calls for authorities to guarantee safety for all candidates regardless of political affiliation.
