New board at UCC promises professionalism and integrity

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) officially inaugurated its newly appointed board members at an event held on 2nd April 2025 at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance
Dr. Charity Basaza Mulenga, an accomplished electrical engineer and academic leader, was sworn in as Chairperson of the board.
Others on the board are Stephen Ddungu Kabugu, Bernard M. Katureebe, Eng. Geoffrey Agoi, Eng. Paul Odoi, Sylvia Namabidde Musisi, Hawa Tuuku, and George William Nyombi Thembo, the UCC Executive Director.
According to UCC, the board members bring a wealth of experience from diverse sectors, including law, finance, ICT infrastructure, public health, engineering, and governance.
The board member took the oath of office, committing to uphold the Constitution, the Uganda Communications Act 2013 and to perform their duties with professionalism and integrity.
The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who was accompanied by the Minister of State, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga.
This transition represents a new chapter for Uganda Communications Commission, a unified pledge to strengthen governance, advance digital transformation and promote the interests of all Ugandans through an inclusive and progressive communications framework.
Who is Dr. Mulenga, the chairperson?
Dr. Mulenga holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, an MSc in Digital Communication Systems from the University of Loughborough, and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University.
Her distinguished career spans both academia and industry, including leadership roles at MTN Uganda, Makerere University, and King Ceasar University, where she served as the founding Vice Chancellor from 2011 to 2016.
