Parliament organises party for MPs to ‘shed off campaign stress’

Tayebwa made the announcement on Thursday while opening the afternoon plenary sitting, explaining that the event would serve as both an end-of-year and beginning-of-year celebration after last year’s activities disrupted the usual schedule.

Parliament will on Friday, January 30, 2026, host a party for legislators to help them “shed off the stress” accumulated during the recently concluded parliamentary election campaigns, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has announced.

Tayebwa made the announcement on Thursday while opening the afternoon plenary sitting, explaining that the event would serve as both an end-of-year and beginning-of-year celebration after last year’s activities disrupted the usual schedule.

“Honourable colleagues, we were unable to hold the end-of-year party because we were all running up and down. We were busy in our constituencies,” Tayebwa told MPs. “So, as the leadership of Parliament, we decided that we should have a party for you so that it is a combination of end of year and beginning of the year.”

The Deputy Speaker said the party will take place at 5:00pm at the South Wing ground parking area of Parliament, and invited all legislators to attend.

“So we shall have it tomorrow at 5pm at South Wing ground parking. I therefore invite you to attend and we shed off the stress that we got from the field,” he added.

During his communication, Tayebwa also congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on winning the recently concluded presidential election and paid tribute to all presidential candidates who participated in the race.

He further congratulated Members of Parliament who retained or won seats in the January 15, 2026 parliamentary elections, while urging those who were unsuccessful to remain engaged and maintain contact with their colleagues.

The announcement comes as Parliament resumes normal business following the highly competitive election period, which saw MPs traverse their constituencies in intensive campaigns ahead of the polls.
