Parliament reviews Ugx 8.1T supplementary budget as roads and elections take the largest share
The biggest allocations include UGX 1.696T for stalled road works and UGX 469.5B to support key activities ahead of the 2025/2026 general elections.

Parliament has scrutinized an UGX 8.104 trillion supplementary budget request, with the largest portion earmarked for stalled road projects and preparations for the upcoming elections.
According to the report tabled before the House, the government plans to inject UGX 1.696 trillion into critical road infrastructure, citing delayed projects, cost escalations, and the urgent need to restore mobility on key transport corridors. The Ministry of Works and Transport said these funds are necessary to revive projects whose progress has stalled due to financial gaps.
Another significant allocation is UGX 469.5 billion, which will facilitate essential activities ahead of the 2025/2026 general elections. The Electoral Commission is expected to channel the funds toward voter registration updates, logistics, election materials, and early operational planning.
Other sectors captured in the supplementary include security, public administration, and emergency government obligations. Officials noted that some of these expenditures are unavoidable statutory commitments.
The Budget Committee is now reviewing the figures before presenting its final recommendations to the full House. Lawmakers are expected to debate the allocations in the coming sitting before the vote is taken.
