President Museveni honored at CAF awards 2025 for Outstanding contribution to African football
CAF recognizes leaders of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania for strengthening football development across the continent

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been recognised at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco, receiving the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award for his significant contribution to the growth and advancement of African football.
The honour was jointly bestowed upon President Museveni, Kenya’s President William Ruto, and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, acknowledging the collective effort and commitment of the East African leaders in strengthening football structures and supporting major continental sporting initiatives.
Each leader received a CAF Awards plaque during the ceremony. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the trio for their “exceptional commitment to advancing football development across Africa,” highlighting their role in nurturing talent, improving sports infrastructure, and empowering football communities.
The recognition underscores President Museveni’s longstanding dedication to sports development in Uganda—championing infrastructure expansion, nurturing young players, and promoting football as a unifying force for youth and communities.
The three East African nations recently made history by jointly hosting a successful CHAN 2024 tournament under the Pamoja umbrella. Preparations for the highly anticipated AFCON 2027, also set to be co-hosted by the three countries, are already well underway.
