Repatriation of Keith Muhakanizi’s body rescheduled

The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja confirmed this while presiding over the commemoration service of the late Muhakanizi who was the Permanent Secretary of the OPM.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has confirmed that the body of the fallen Keith Muhakanizi will be repatriated from Milan in Italy tomorrow, Thursday, not today, Wednesday as earlier planned.

The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja confirmed this while presiding over the commemoration service of the late Muhakanizi who was the Permanent Secretary of the OPM.

The OPM held the commemoration service to celebrate the life of the fallen Keith Muhakanizi who passed on last week at Milan hospital in Italy.

“The body of Keith Muhakanizi, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister who died in Italy, is expected to return tomorrow following the last touches of his transportation,” said Nabbanja.

The service that was attended by the different dignitaries from government, family friends and well-wishers was led by Rev. Rebecca Margret Nyegenye.

Earlier yesterday, Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary Office of the President, noted that Muhakanizi’s body will be flown back to Uganda tentatively on Wednesday afternoon aboard Ethiopian Airlines, however plans have been changed.

Government is expected to spend a total Shs45 million for the repatriation of the body, an amount that will cater for costs of the funeral home, insurance, transport and other costs.

“We should have paid this money on the weekend, but we were informed that people in Milan do not work on weekends. This explains why there has been a delay in returning the body,” a source told NewVision.

Muhakanizi will be remembered as professional giant that streamlined the administrative guidelines in two years, and has been in the Office of the Prime Minister.
