UCC bans Dynaso Wegoso’s “Mukube Paver” song over violence concerns

Even more alarming to authorities is the song’s impact on social media, where it has inspired a wave of viral “challenge” videos—particularly on platforms like TikTok—showing young people imitating aggressive behavior linked to the track.

Uganda’s entertainment scene has been thrown into fresh controversy after the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) moved to ban the viral song “Mukube Paver” by fast-rising artist Dynaso Wegoso.

In a strongly worded directive dated April 7, 2026, the communications regulator ordered all TV and radio stations, internet service providers, and social media platforms to immediately halt the airing, streaming, and sharing of the track, citing concerns over its content and growing online influence.

According to UCC, the song has sparked widespread public complaints and is accused of promoting and glorifying violence, both explicitly and indirectly. Even more alarming to authorities is the song’s impact on social media, where it has inspired a wave of viral “challenge” videos—particularly on platforms like TikTok—showing young people imitating aggressive behavior linked to the track.

The Commission warned that such trends are not only dangerous but risk normalizing harmful conduct among youth, raising serious public safety concerns.

“The continued dissemination of such content poses a risk to public safety and undermines societal values,” the directive noted.

As part of the crackdown, UCC has gone a step further by banning not just the song, but also any discussions, remixes, or user-generated content related to it, effectively wiping it off mainstream and digital platforms—at least for now.

The directive also carries serious legal consequences. Broadcasters and individuals who defy the ban risk fines, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

In a dramatic twist, Dynaso Wegoso has been summoned to appear before the Commission on April 16, 2026, where he is expected to respond to the allegations and possibly negotiate the future of his controversial hit.

The move has already divided opinion within Uganda’s entertainment circles. While some industry players support the regulator’s stance on protecting young audiences, others argue that the ban raises concerns about artistic freedom and censorship.
