Uganda Airlines to acquire 10 new aircrafts, Government allocates funds

Supplementary budget to cover pre-delivery payments for Airbus and Boeing jets

Uganda Airlines is set to expand its fleet with the acquisition of 10 new aircraft, including four mid-range or narrow-body Airbus jets, four wide-body Boeing planes, and two Boeing converted freighters for cargo operations, according to Gen. Katumba Wamala, Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport.

Speaking on the planned purchase, Gen. Katumba said the government has provided for the supplementary budget to cover initial financial requirements for the 2025/2026 financial year.

“The supplementary budget includes pre-delivery payments at purchaser agreement signature amounting to UGX 247.019 billion and a share of UGX 275.245 billion for pre-delivery payments expected in January 2026 from both Boeing and Airbus,” he explained.

The expansion marks a significant step in strengthening Uganda Airlines’ domestic, regional, and cargo operations, aligning with the government’s strategy to boost national aviation infrastructure and connectivity.

The airline plans to deploy the aircraft across key routes and integrate the freighters to enhance cargo capacity, providing more efficient transport solutions for goods within and beyond Uganda.

Gen. Katumba said the government remains committed to ensuring that Uganda Airlines becomes a competitive and profitable national carrier, capable of supporting both passenger travel and freight logistics.
