We Are Going To Prove Our Critics Wrong, FDC’s Attan After Getting Nominated
The Court of Appeal on 24th May annulled the election of Attan on grounds that it was illegal for the Electoral Commission (EC) to reconstitute the boundaries of Soroti City East Constituency by removing the parishes of Aloet and Opilyai and placing them under Soroti City West Constituency.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Moses Okia Attan has this afternoon been nominated as a candidate for Soroti City East constituency by-election.
Despite having won in the 2021 elections, his competitor and loser in the election Herbert Edmund Ariko of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) went to court and the results were nullified a year later.
“I have been nominated for the second time within the term of five years. If you defeat somebody in the first round and he doesn’t accept you go back to defeat him in the second round,” Attan, speaking to the media after being nominated, said.
“I am going to move door to door, house to house, village to village, to win this election because I was nullified on grounds that are so flimsy. I wasn’t in parliament, I wasn’t in local government, and I had no role in matters of boundary,” he added.

And now, an upbeat Attan says this election will prove that the people who voted for him in 2021 are still alive. “I am going out there to thank people who are supporting and praying for us. We want to prove our critics wrong,”
He has warned the NRM not to vend violence in Soroti City because ‘Soroti is not a playground’ and that the people can defend themselves as they did against Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). “We have tasted gun powder, we have seen tear gas and we don’t fear soldiers.”
