What Museveni and MTN bosses discussed in State House
The high-level meeting underscored the strategic importance of Uganda’s telecommunications sector in driving socio-economic transformation, accelerating innovation, and enhancing service delivery across the country.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday, February 12, 2026, met with the Chairman of MTN Uganda’s Board of Directors, Charles Mbire, Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge, and General Manager for Corporate Services Enid Edroma at State House, Entebbe.
The high-level meeting underscored the strategic importance of Uganda’s telecommunications sector in driving socio-economic transformation, accelerating innovation, and enhancing service delivery across the country.
Digital Infrastructure as a Development Catalyst
During the discussions, both parties emphasized the growing role of digital connectivity and fintech platforms in advancing government priorities. Particular focus was placed on expanding access to financial services, improving the efficiency of public service delivery, and enabling broader economic participation at the grassroots level.
With mobile penetration and digital financial services increasingly shaping Uganda’s economic landscape, the meeting highlighted how telecom infrastructure has become central to commerce, governance, and inclusion.
President Museveni commended MTN Uganda for its sustained investment and contribution to national development, describing telecommunications and digital financial services as critical enablers of Uganda’s transformation agenda.
He noted that the effective utilization of telecom and fintech platforms has strengthened socio-economic progress, particularly by connecting underserved communities and supporting enterprise growth.
Commitment to Digital Inclusion
The President reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance digital inclusion, innovation, and nationwide connectivity. He emphasized the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in ensuring that digital tools translate into tangible development outcomes.
On their part, the MTN Uganda delegation expressed appreciation to President Museveni and the NRM government for fostering a stable and enabling investment climate. They noted that policy consistency and macroeconomic stability have allowed companies such as MTN to expand infrastructure, innovate services, and contribute to Uganda’s economic growth.
Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration
The engagement signals continued collaboration between government and key private sector players in leveraging technology to support Uganda’s long-term development goals.
As digital transformation accelerates globally, Uganda’s leadership appears keen on positioning telecommunications and fintech as foundational pillars of inclusive growth, financial deepening, and modernized service delivery.
