Police arrest three suspects implicated in the raid at Honourable Mubarak Munyangwa’s residence
The raid left Munyagwa and his security guard Benjamin Mpaka injured, along with valuable items including a 65-inch television, Shs. 2 million in cash, and 10 phones stolen.
The Kampala Metropolitan South territorial Police in collaboration with Nsangi Police station, have successfully apprehended three suspects implicated in the raid at Honorable Mubarak Munyangwa’s residence in Kimbeja cell.
The raid left Munyagwa and his security guard Benjamin Mpaka injured, along with valuable items including a 65-inch television, Shs. 2 million in cash, and 10 phones stolen.
Additionally, a vehicle (Mv Mark X – UBB043A) was vandalized at one of the targeted homes.
According to police the three suspects who include Igga Meddy, Safari Allan, and Kwizera Mansur, are connected to several aggravated robbery and attempted murder Incidents in Kyengera town council.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said “these arrests are connected to the alleged aggravated robbery and attempted murder incidents involving Musoke Collins, Ssebufu Kenneth, Namutebi Winnie, Kalanzi Juma, Emuroni Michael, and Male Shaffic on December 29, 2023,”
He added that investigations revealed stolen phones, some containing mobile money which were traced to unauthorized transactions.
“Diligent police work led to the successful arrest of the trio on January 16, 2024, where the suspects were found in possession of breaking implements believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes,”
Telephone lines associated with the illicit transfer of money during the robbery incidents were also recovered and according to Owoyesigyire they will serve as crucial exhibits for the prosecution of the suspects.
Police say the arrested individuals, operating within a larger group of 6-8 members, primarily targeted the areas of Budo, Kimbeja, and Kyengera town council.
“Currently, security agencies are actively pursuing other members of the group who remain at large. We commend the public for their vigilance in providing information against criminal elements and applaud the dedicated task teams for the successful arrest of the suspects,” he said.
