PROFILE: Who is Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa, the new UNBS ED?
Kasigwa will be replacing Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama who has been the acting executive director UNBS.
The Hon. Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Francis Mwebesa has appointed Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa as the 5th Executive Director of Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) effective May 13, 2024.
Eng. James N. Kasigwa is an Electrical Engineer with an illustrious career, having worked with multinational corporations, private and public sectors, spanning over two decades in leadership and strategic management of expert teams in Science, Technology, Innovation, Standards and the Infrastructure Industry.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Master’s of Science degree in Telecommunication from London South Bank University, London, United Kingdom and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from ESAMI.
Prior to this appointment, Eng. Kasigwa has been serving as the Director Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Uganda. He also served as the Commissioner ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance.
Kasigwa will be replacing Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama who has been the acting executive director UNBS.
Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama is the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Management and Financial Services.
He is responsible for provision of strategic leadership and oversight of the directorate through effective and efficient planning, monitoring, coordinating, and implementation of UNBS policies and programmes, ensuring proper management and optimal utilization of available resources. He previously worked with the Bureau as Audit Manager from 2013 to 2016.
Mr. Nangalama also serves as Board member and Treasurer of the Institute of Internal Auditors – Uganda. He is also a Member of the Finance, Planning and Administration Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
Before his appointment as the UNBS Deputy Executive Director in charge of Management and Financial Services, Mr. Nangalama was serving as the Chief Internal Auditor at Kyambogo University. He has over two decades of experience in both private and public entities. His working experience entails strategy and policy monitoring, internal audit, financial and operations management within the sectors of tertiary education, energy, and quality and standards regulation.
