NRM Chooses To Maintain EALA MPs Incumbents For Re-election

The six names will be forwarded to the 11th Parliament, and nine candidates - three from opposition - will be chosen to represent Uganda when the term of the current representatives elapses in December.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has chosen to retain the incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) as the party’s flag bearers in the forthcoming EALA elections.

By doing this, the party ignored 130 members who had expressed interest for the six available seats. Prior to the decision, NRM said, 63, had withdrawn their interests.

The party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) reached the decision to retain the incumbents at its 10th meeting that sat in Entebbe.

With this decision, Akol Rose Okullu, Kakooza James, Mugyenyi Mary, Musamali Paul Mwasa, Namara Dennis and Odongo George Stephen will be the NRM candidates.

The party said the six are maintained in recognition of their exceptional performance.
