Travel Alert: Taiwan and India impose tightened border protocols on Uganda, DRC and South Sudan
India, U.S., Canada and Bahamas already enforced entry restrictions

Global travel windows are narrowing rapidly for Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as Taiwan joins a growing list of major international nations enforcing strict border controls and entry bans to halt the spread of Ebola.
Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control has officially elevated its travel advisory for Uganda and the DRC to Level 3: “Warning,” ordering all arriving travelers into a mandatory 21-day quarantine and implementing intensive in-flight screenings.
However, Taiwan is far from alone, a coordinated global response is underway, with severe restrictions already being actively enforced by several key global destinations.
Below are the Global Entry Bans and Quarantine Controls Now in Effect:
The United States: The U.S. government has taken some of the most aggressive measures, elevating its advisory to a Level 4: “Do Not Travel” status. Under a direct CDC emergency order, the U.S. has temporarily banned entry to non-U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (green card holders) who have been in Uganda, the DRC, or South Sudan within the last 21 days. Citizens permitted to return are being rerouted through select airports for aggressive medical screening.
Canada: Effective this week, the Canadian government has implemented a 90-day suspension on all immigration documents including visitor visas, electronic travel authorizations (eTAs), and permanent resident visas for residents of Uganda, the DRC, and South Sudan. Furthermore, anyone allowed entry who has visited these regions must undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine under Canada’s Quarantine Act.
India: Also issued a travel advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan due to the Ebola outbreak. As of late May 2026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare implemented heightened screening measures, like self-declaration forms and thermal checks, for travelers from these countries.
The Bahamas: The Bahamas also tightened border protocols, requiring extensive travel-history declarations and enforcing mandatory health screenings or entry denials for passengers originating from the affected outbreak zones.
What this means for Ugandan travelers is; if you have international travel scheduled over the coming weeks, you face a highly restrictive global landscape. These sweeping measures mean that even if you possess a previously approved visa or travel document, you may be blocked from boarding your flight or placed into immediate institutional isolation upon arrival.
