Government launches National Cleaning Days Initiative to promote Hygiene

Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has unveiled the National Cleaning Days (NCDs) initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and public health across Uganda.

The initiative, running under the theme “A Clean Uganda Is Everyone’s Responsibility,” will take place every last Saturday of the month from 7:00am to 10:00am, during which all public activities will be suspended except emergency services.

The mandatory exercise will bring together citizens, government institutions, businesses, and other stakeholders to clean public spaces and improve sanitation as a way of preventing diseases.

The programme comes amid growing concerns over urban waste management challenges, particularly in Kampala, which generates thousands of tonnes of solid waste daily but faces gaps in collection and disposal.

The Vice President is expected to officially launch the initiative on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Kiti Zone in Kisenyi III Parish, marking the start of a nationwide campaign to promote responsible waste management and a cleaner environment.
