Rickman Manrick returns to football as Express FC unveils new signing
The announcement marks a return to competitive football for Rickman, who has built a name in Uganda’s entertainment industry through music and radio but also has a strong football background.

Uganda Premier League giants Express FC have unveiled musician and radio presenter Derrick Ddungu, popularly known as Rickman Manrick, as one of the club’s new signings ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The announcement marks a return to competitive football for Rickman, who has built a name in Uganda’s entertainment industry through music and radio but also has a strong football background.
Before gaining fame as an artiste and media personality, Ddungu began his football journey with Kampala Junior Team (KJT) and Friends of Football (FOF). He later moved to Sweden, where he featured for clubs including Dalen KFF, Gunnilse IS, and Sävedalen IF, playing mainly as a forward and winger.
Rickman’s football career was interrupted by injuries, including a serious knee setback, which pushed him to focus more on music. He went on to release several popular songs and later joined the radio as a presenter while keeping his passion for football alive.
His move to Express FC gives him an opportunity to combine his two passions as he returns to the pitch with one of Uganda’s most historic football clubs. The Red Eagles are preparing for the new Uganda Premier League campaign, with Rickman expected to add experience and versatility to their attacking options.
The signing has attracted attention because of Rickman’s unique journey from football to musician and radio personality, and now back to professional football.
