NRM Wins Gogonyo, Bukimbiri By-elections

NRM: The double victory by the NRM in today's Gogonyo and Bukimbiri by-elections is a clear manifestation that the party enjoys massive grass root support of the population.

The returning officers of Pallisa district and Kisoro district have announced the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates Derrick Orone and Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu as the winners of Gogonyo County and Bukimbiri County by-elections respectively.

In Pallisa, the Returning Officer Daniel Othieno declared Derrick Orone the winner after he got 19, 199 votes while his competitor Okoboi Joseph Opolot (NUP) garnered 519. Othieno announced that 19, 975 ballot papers were counted; 257 were invalid while 21 were spoilt.

The Returning Officer for Kisoro Electoral District, Nayebare Daniel has declared Kwizera Eddie Wa-Gahungu who has obtained the largest number of votes, to be the elected candidate for Bukimbiri County Constituency, Kisoro District.

In Kisoro, Returning Officer Daniel Nayebare declared Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu the winner after getting 12, 214 votes. His closest rival Asgario Turyagyenda (Independent) got 10, 105 to come second while in third place was James Owebeyi (FDC) with 280 votes.

In Bukimbiri, according to Nayebare’s declarations, 23, 227 ballot papers were counted; 29 were spoilt while 320 were invalid. 22, 907 were the valid votes cast for candidates.

“The double victory by the NRM in today’s Gogonyo and Bukimbiri by-elections is a clear manifestation that the party enjoys massive grass root support of the population,” the jubilant NRM said in a brief congratulatory message.
