MP Yorke Alioni Odria summoned by CID
Enanga said that the assault by Odria caused injuries to Ssenge on his right ear and the side head.
The Directorate of CID at Uganda Police has summoned the Member of Parliament for Aringa South in Yumbe district, Yorke Alioni Odria, to appear at the CID headquarters tomorrow for allegedly acting in a disorderly manner at Parliament during the EALA elections last week.
According to Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, Odria attacked and punched ASP Alex Ssenge without any legal justification while he was at lawful duty. Enanga said that the assault by Odria caused injuries to Ssenge on his right ear and the side head.
Enanga noted that the MP was frustrated by the conduct of the EALA elections after some Members of Parliament were granted permission to vote early due to personal reasons.
“You all witnessed how he violently grabbed the ballot box and took it to the main building in complete disregard of the parliamentary procedure. He was, however, stopped by the OC at Parliament and officers attached to the office of the sergeant at arms,” he said.
Police said the best way to understand the motive of his action of the unprovoked assault is to listen to his side of the story. Enanga also added that the management of Police has condemned attacks on police officers something which highlights challenges officers face while on duty.
“So, we are deeply grateful to the bravery and professionalism exhibited by ASP Ssenga. It was thoughtful of him not to retaliate and take the law in his own hands,” he notes.
Odria was seen last week on Thursday during EALA elections, carrying a Ballot box, shouting “vote rigging, vote rigging” before he punched an officer.
