Court hears habeas corpus application as search for Muwanga Kivumbi continues

According to his legal team, police last week denied knowledge of Kivumbi’s location, while the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has also denied having him in custody.

The High Court has continued hearing an application seeking a writ of habeas corpus for Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, as questions over his whereabouts remain unresolved.

According to his legal team, police last week denied knowledge of Kivumbi’s location, while the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has also denied having him in custody.

During court proceedings, the Attorney General’s representatives reportedly informed court that police leadership had provided an indication of a possible lead on where Kivumbi could be found and requested until the following morning to provide an update.

The legal team said they had received information that Kivumbi had been taken to Natete Police Station, but upon visiting the station, they were informed that he had been transferred to Butambala. They, however, claimed there were indications that he could still be at the police facility.

The lawyers have continued to demand clarity on the whereabouts of Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi as court awaits further information from authorities.
