MTN Uganda, Busoga Kingdom launch 9th edition of Masaza Cup tournament
The tournament will bring together 14 teams representing Busoga’s chiefdoms to compete for regional football glory, while promoting youth talent development, unity and community engagement.

MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Busoga Kingdom, has officially launched the 9th edition of the MTN Busoga Kingdom Masaza Cup Tournament, with this year’s competition set to kick off on 15 August 2026 at Namutumba District Headquarters in Busiki Chiefdom.

MTN Uganda has committed Shs550 million towards the tournament, reaffirming its support for grassroots football and social transformation initiatives across the region.
This year’s tournament will run under the theme “Abasadha N’empango mukukomya Ekifuna Mabuunda mu Baana Abato” (Men are the pillars in stopping teenage early pregnancy), aimed at encouraging men to take a more active role in protecting and empowering young girls.
Speaking at the launch, Busoga Kingdom Second Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Osman Noor said the tournament remains an important platform for promoting unity and discovering disciplined football talent.
“Football brings unity, and when we are together and united, we are always very strong. We want victories earned on the field of play because the Masaza Cup is about discovering talent with discipline,” Noor said.
MTN Uganda Manager for Sponsorships and Events, John Paul Okwi, said the tournament demonstrates the power of sport in bringing communities together and inspiring positive change.
“The MTN Busoga Kingdom Masaza Tournament continues to demonstrate the power of sport to unite communities, nurture talent and inspire positive social change,” Okwi said.k
The tournament will feature enhanced rewards, including Player of the Match awards, fan prizes, merchant rewards, social media competitions and recognition for outstanding media coverage.
The champions will receive Shs13 million, while the first, second and third runners-up will take home Shs9 million, Shs6 million and Shs4 million respectively.
The opening match will be played on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at 3pm between defending champions Busiki and Bugweri at Namutumba District Headquarters.
