Pastors propose to parliament the time when people should drink alcohol

Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill among others seeks to prohibit the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks in the country.

Prominent Pastors in the country are in support of regulating alcohol consumption through the proposed Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill that was tabled before Parliament by Sarah Opendi, the Tororo District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) last year.

Speaking during a stakeholder consultative meeting organized by the Department of Legislative and Procedural Services in Kampala, Pastor Joseph Sserwadda of Victory Christian Church Ministries suggested that the time for selling alcohol should be from 4pm.

In the same spirit, Pastor Julius Oyet proposed that the time for sale and consumption of alcohol should be from 4pm to 10pm. The bill proposes noon to 6am.

On 8th November 2022, House granted leave of Parliament to Hon Sarah Opendi (Tororo District) to table this private member’s bill.

The bill also seeks to regulate the promotion and advertisement of alcoholic drinks.
