Kiira Motors’ 13,000 km journey showcases Uganda-made electric bus across six African nations.

Uganda has launched a landmark 30-day Made in Uganda Grand Trans-Africa Electric Expedition, covering 13,000 km through six African countries. Reports and social media indicate Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, officiated the flag-off ceremony in Kampala.
The expedition features the Kayoola Electric Coach 13M (2025), designed and manufactured in Uganda, carrying 42 engineers and innovators across Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini, and South Africa.
Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, described the journey as a historic milestone for Uganda’s green technology sector, highlighting the country’s growing leadership in sustainable innovation.
MTN Uganda supports the journey as lead sponsor, providing connectivity and mobile money tools for the team.
Kiira Motors CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi said the expedition is “an electric trans-African exhibition of technology and innovation,” while the company is targeting 1,000 bus orders from regional markets.
The initiative underscores Uganda’s ambition to lead in sustainable mobility and demonstrates the potential of homegrown electric vehicle technology on the African stage.
