Uganda’s oil projects record major progress towards first oil

Uganda’s petroleum projects are continuing to make significant progress as the country moves closer to achieving first oil, according to the latest project updates as of June 30, 2026.
The Tilenga Project has reached 74% completion, with 234 wells already drilled, surpassing the minimum requirement of 170 wells needed for production.
The Kingfisher Oil Development Project is at 79% completion, with major infrastructure including the Central Processing Facility and feeder pipeline nearing completion.
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has achieved 90% overall progress, with more than 1,443 kilometres of pipeline welded across Uganda and Tanzania.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Refinery Project continues to advance, with pre-Final Investment Decision technical studies reaching 28% completion.
Authorities say the milestones reflect steady progress towards Uganda’s first oil production and the development of key infrastructure required to commercialise the country’s petroleum resources.
