CRIME DEN: Police Recovers Sub Machine Gun In Abandoned Car In Mukono

The operation that led to this discovery was conducted by the territorial police in conjunction with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad Unit.

The rate at which crimes are performed by armed gangs is worrying police. The officers are responding with intense operations to pacify the area.

Today, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) informed the media that police recovered a motor vehicle registration number UAD 728Y, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, which was parked at Ham Mukasa, Nasuti junction, Mukono.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire revealed that upon searching the boot of the vehicle, scene of crime officers found a sub-machine gun loaded with three live ammunition that was wrapped in a yellow polythene sack.

“The team also found four sharp pangas, a sharp steel knife, two pairs of scissors, two pairs of pliers and two screwdrivers. Other equipment that is used in breaking-in were also found in the car.”

The operation that led to this discovery was conducted by the territorial police in conjunction with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad Unit. Police said the examination of the recovered items is ongoing to establish the owners and whether they were used to robberies.

“The gun has been submitted to our forensic experts to establish whether it was the one used in the robbery of the recent attack on the supermarket in Mukono, where one person was injured.”

Several suspects have been arrested and they are being processed through the systems. Their details will be availed as soon as the investigations are done.

Yesterday, CP Enanga Fred, the police Spokesperson, said the Flying Squad Unit and Mukono Police were in the custody of two suspects, highly linked to the aggravated robbery of Spice Supermarket, located at Ku Ssatu, in Namubiru ward, Mukono Central Division in Mukono Municipality. The robbery happened on 25.06.2022.
