FSG confirms talks over potential minority investment in Liverpool FC

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have confirmed they are holding discussions with a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia over a possible minority investment in the Premier League club.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have confirmed they are holding discussions with a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia over a possible minority investment in the Premier League club.

The investment group, backed by the billionaire Mittal family, is interested in acquiring what FSG described as a “strategic minority investment” in Liverpool. However, the club said negotiations are still at an early stage and no agreement has been reached.

The talks follow Bhatia’s recent decision to step down as co-owner of Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR), a move that has increased speculation about his plans to invest in Liverpool.

Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, is part of one of the United Kingdom’s wealthiest families. Reports suggest the proposed deal could follow a similar structure to FSG’s 2023 agreement with Dynasty Equity, where the American owners sold a minority stake while maintaining control of the club.

FSG, which bought Liverpool in 2010, has previously stated that it remains open to strategic investment opportunities aimed at supporting the club’s long-term ambitions rather than pursuing a full sale.

Since taking over, FSG has overseen major sporting and commercial growth at Liverpool, including Premier League and Champions League success, while the club’s global valuation has increased significantly.

Although reports have suggested possible financial figures for the investment, neither FSG nor the Bhatia-led consortium has confirmed details, with discussions continuing.
